Interschool Sport

Children in the senior school all participate in a range of Summer and Winter sports during terms 1 and 2 with other local schools.

Sports played include Rounders, T-ball, Softball, Bat Tennis, Volleyball, Newcombe, Cricket, Football and Netball.

Students from Grade 4-6 are involved in Athletic Sports and a Cross Country event. Successful teams and competitors have an opportunity to compete at Zone and then State levels. All children (Prep to Grade 6) are involved in a school cross country held annually at Lilydale Lake. A junior school Athletics Sports is also held each year, usually in term one.

Swimming

Each year a swimming program for children in years Prep to 6 is organised by the school. Qualified Aqua Swim Instructors at the Ringwood Aquatic Centre (grade 3-4) and Kings Swim Centre (grade Prep-2) teach small groups of children swimming and survival skills. All children are encouraged to be part of this excellent program. Times for swimming instruction are notified well in advance to enable parents to budget for the transport and instruction costs incurred.

Gymnastics

Each year a 6-week gymnastics program for children in years Prep to 6 is organised by the school. Qualified coaches at the Eclipse Gymnastics Centre in Ringwood teach groups of children the basics of balance, strength and agility in a safe and fully equipped gym. All children are encouraged to take part in this excellent program. Parents are notified well in advance to enable parents to budget for the transport and instruction costs incurred.

In recent years (2006 and 2007) Wonga Park students have excelled in the sporting arena. As well as being the district athletics champion for the last two years, Wonga Park teams have made state ‘Hooptime’ finals, reached regional finals in cricket and state finals in girls’ basketball. Individual students have also succeeded up to state level in some of the variety of competitions being offered by the school.

Circus Skills

In 2007 all students in grades 3-6 took part in 9 week circus skills program facilitated by a NICA trained circus instructor from the ‘Little Devils’ company. Student’s developed skills using a variety of apparatus including diablos, hoops, juggling balls, devil sticks and stilts. The program culminated in a performance at our whole school concert.
