Student Leadership
Our school promotes student leadership in a variety of ways and via a number of programs. our school leaders are chosen by their peers in an election process.
JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL
Junior School Council consists of two children from each grade 3-6 and meets regularly with the teachers nominated for this role. The Junior School Council is involved in decision making at the school. Their input is valuable at many levels from suggesting school improvements to helping to choose new playground equipment.
SCHOOL CAPTAINS & AMBASSADORS
ROLE DESCRIPTION FOR SCHOOL CAPTAINS
General expectations
It is expected that the School Captains of Wonga Park Primary School will demonstrate the following qualities:
- Exemplary behaviour in the classroom and playground
- Honesty, reliability, tolerance, co-operation, respect and a love of learning as per the Wonga Park Primary School values.
- A caring attitude towards the Wonga Park environment and other students.
- Appropriate dress at school.
- Ability and willingness to speak confidently to a variety of audiences.
Specific roles
- To attend the student leadership conference each year.
- Public speaking on behalf of the children of Wonga Park Primary School. This may include school assemblies, open nights, ANZAC ceremonies etc.
- Assembly each Monday morning – presenting special merit certificates and birthday certificates.
- School Tours – showing prospective parents around our school.
- Preparation and delivery of formal Graduation Speech on behalf of Year 6 students.
- Advice/input to leadership team.
ROLE DESCRIPTION FOR VICE CAPTAINS
- To deputise for the School Captains
- To assist at Assemblies, for example announcing House Points
- To assist School Captains in their role
- To attend the student leadership conference
ROLE DESCRIPTION FOR AMBASSADORS
- To deputise for School Vice Captains
- To assist in representing the school at school functions, e.g. special events, showing visitors around the school.
- To undertake additional negotiated leadership roles at the school.
HOUSE CAPTAINS
There are four Houses at the school used for House Sports, Social Service and School activities.
Burch - Blue
Upton - Red
Body - Green
Peters - Yellow
- House Captains for the four houses are elected from Grade 6 in term 1.
- Vice House Captains are elected from Grade 6 in Term 1.
Student leadership has recently involved selecting ‘Music Captains’ and Library monitors.
